CASE STUDY

SITUATION

World Computer Exchange is a global non-profit that connects youth in developing countries to the internet, while also building up skills and opportunities.

Their website serves different kinds of users including:

  • Groups needing computers and technology
  • Donors offering used equipment and money
  • Volunteers offering to test computers and install software, packing containers in donor countries
  • Volunteers offering to set up and run newly arrived donated computers in recipient countries
  • Board Members
  • Staff Members

SPECIFICALLY

  • Drupal CMS was originally set up for their the system their website.
  • With time, their needs and usage changed.
  • Updates became more difficult to make by staff.
  • New developments in Open Source software were not taken advantage of due to the older structure of the site.
  • Analytics were too broad to inform on how visitors used the site.
  • Many things were still being done ‘by hand.’

Finally, when a migration to a new server caused significant loss of data on the site, we were employed to get it back, quick.

  • Developed auto-responders to collect names & emails for automatic and accurate list management for e-newsletter.
  • Developed Social Integration
  • Customized the styling of the site.
  • Implemented Security & Backup.
